The band is so on fire and Ed is incredible.
Thanks for posting this
I never saw them with Dave. I did see them with Sammy. Ed poured his cup of red wine on this woman's head during sound check. Ed was so drunk by the time of the show, that he couldn't play. He did one fast run up the neck, and his fingers landed between th e strings. His playing was sloppy and he sounded like ****. Really disappointing to spend money on the deluxe package with meet and greet, and he was sloshed. A total waste of money.
Saw that tour when they opened for Black Sabbath supporting their first album. They were indeed tight and on the mark then.
Jim Dandy was kicking booty for sure!
Man...back in the early days they were phenomenal. Great band back then...
Saw the tour with Black Sabbath . They were jaw dropping !
In case you guys haven't seen this one, it's one of the best performances I've seen by anyone, anywhere. Including DLR.
"When there were Kings"
Thanks for posting that, in '78 NO BAND could follow that act.
I saw them on their first tour as headliners ( I think it was their first) at the Tarrant County Convention Center right up front...what an experience.
I was at this show. Fresno, CA a few days before my 15th birthday. They opened for Back Sabbath. It was a game changer for me. Black Sabbath turned in a lack luster performance. Largely due to Ozzy appearing to be a bit disinterested in the whole affair. Eddie, Dave and the boys made up for it. I had never seen anything like it. The energy was incredible. They had the world by the tail and they seemed to know it.
You have to hand it to any band that had VH as an opener. No matter who it was, you know there was a moment when they said, "Are you F****** kidding me? We have to follow that?"
What an awesome post.
And by someone who was actually there!
@problem-child - You got to see live, when the birth of the world of hard Rock guitar music was changed forever.
Jealousy is raging. Just kidding........... yeah, who am I kidding?
Would of loved to been there with you.
If it was the 2004 reunion tour with sammy, i have no doubt Eddie was trashed and played like shizz.
I have seen YouTube videos from that tour, and I was embarrassed for them.
A particularly dark time for king Edward.
I had seen them with sammy for the unlawful carnal knowledge tour, and balance tour.
Ed was on top of his game for both shows. I mean, really something special to see.
Even if that's not people's favorite vh incarnation, there's no denying the killer chops of the man. Jaw dropping.
I was a little too young to have seen them back in their heyday with dave roth.
And i had no interest in seeing the reunion tour in later years. I kinda moved on by then.
Yep, it was 2004. I paid 800 bucks for two tickets. It was my wife’s birthday present. Sammy was great, but didn’t come to the meet and greet. Michael Anthony was cool as well. I couldn’t believe that Eddie poured red wine on that woman. If he would have done hat to my wife, there wouldn’t have been a show because I would have had him arrested. The man was a total dick. And I loved all the Dave albums. But now, I can’t stand to listen to them. Eddie ruined what should have been a memory of the time of my life.
My wife made herself a red and white striped vest and threw it on he stage. Sammy put it on, wore it for a whole song, then gave it back to her. Sammy and Michael were a class act. Eddie and Alex, not so much.
Wow, it's all about EVH, moreso when you see them live in these videos, he's up there with SRV, Hendrix etc great! Thanks for posting
BADASSSSSS!!! Only saw VH once, on the Monsters of Rock tour in 1988, unfortunately that was a couple years after they gave Roth the boot, but Eddie was just epic. Later that year I saw Roth solo when Steve Vai was in his band, also epic.
They put on a killer show in Feb that year in the Omni in Atlanta !
I believe a band named Autograph opened for them that night.
