Died last year on Sept. 15. It also happens to be my birthday. So last year, I wanted to record a tune of his that really touched me...as a tribute to him, and in some way a tribute to a friend of mine who played with him.

The song I kept coming back to was Drive. So...Drive it was.

RIP Ric. Thanks for the songs.

Huge fan of The Cars. Ric was a great musician and an awesome producer as well, producing some of my favorite Weezer albums.

    And Happy Birthday too!

It was the mood and the melody. Melancholy. Kinda like the blues in a way. I took liberties with the break...mostly for a resolution.

Elliot had lots of good Ric stories.

And thanks for the birthday wishes. :D

It's interesting how the passing of your dad can influence things. After my dad passed I got a massive urge for a red strat. It's still on the wall behind me.

One of my favorite bands and Elliot Easton is one of my favorite players. Was very crushed when Ric Ocasek died. The folks in Sat-ops at work had cars music piping over the router all morning at work which was a nice tribute.

    Great cover and Happy Birthday!!!

Happy b-day, Fezz. As an '80s teenager, I was and still am a huge Cars fan. I remember being sad when Ben Orr died, and it was tough hearing that Ric was gone too.

I was a HUGE Cars fan growing up...had the first three albums and had worn them out. I still remembering walking into Walmart and buying their 4th release "Shake It Up". THIS track from it was my favorite...and probably is still in my top 3 Cars tracks. It just felt so edgy compared to some of their commercial stuff. I was still a kid, and lived with limited access to "real" rock radio...I was limited to the usual Styx, Journey, and REO stuff (which was and is still amazing), but I hadn't yet discovered Motorhead and other metal entries. This track just seemed...different:

Elliot was doing his Heroes-Fripp impersonation on that tune.

I did visit this one as a possibility to record...but the melody didn't lend itself to an instrumental. At least not to what I was looking for.

Happy belated b-day! The Cars were such a great band - so many hits, I love that guitar work in “bye bye love” - what an awesome riff...
Who could forget Phoebe cates coming out of the pool to “moving in stereo” from “fast times” - what a babe!!
