Not to suggest that the air in China isn't disgusting, kinda like the air in L.A., but... I'd like to point out that throughout Asia, because of the close proximity in which people exist, it is not only common, but indeed expected, that when one is ill, like with a cold, the person who is ill will wear a mask such as the one in the image, so as to minimize the spread of the infection. Here in the west, we scoff at such things as silly... And all too often, the western media mistakes the wearing of a mask as a testament of air quality. Completely passing up images of oxygen vending machines in convenience stores and subway stations. Like this one...
Cassini infrared image of gigantic storm on Saturn - tail coming in from the right side having extended all the way around the planet. More info about it on today's Astronomy Pic Of The Day page: https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap190915.html
Great pics every day. I have APOD set as my homepage so it's the first thing I see when I fire up the browser. Always interesting, frequently spectacular. Beneath the info paragraph you can use the left arrow to step back day by day. There's a searchable archive too - hours of fun.
Ok so... who taped this, who stored this, who decided to 'leak' this, all very interesting. I have my suspicions, but that's all they are. I stormed Area 51 with those folks, but the place was abandoned and there was nothing but empty donut boxes and a roll of paper towels, and an old World Weekly News.

This has been an issue for well over 15 years. Helium deposits are found as a byproduct of mining Uranium, and it can not easily be manufactured. In the early 2000's when I was an active SCUBA diver, tech divers (as well as welders) were concerned about price and availability of Helium. Seriously... party and parade balloons are a complete waste of this valuable resource. Likely a small percentage compared to manufacturing uses, but still, like atmospheric pollution and the use of other resources, every little bit makes a difference.
Scarcity is certainly nothing new. The Hindenburg was actually designed for helium - it was refitted for hydrogen instead because the US had a virtual monopoly and wouldn't sell helium in case it might be used for military purposes.
