I would appreciate any recommendations on polishes and/or compounds that could safely remove scratches and swirl marks from guitar finishes. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I use Zymol, it is a car cleaner/wax. Someone recommended it to me a long time ago and it works great and smells great! A little expensive but you don't use much. I buy it at Wal-Mart. Works great for light scratches and swirl marks. I use a micro-fiber cloth for this. Try it you'll like it!

McGuire's Mirror Glaze is a super-fine polishing compound used to give auto finishes a final gloss. Used to be available at higher-end auto parts stores and auto paint suppliers. If you just have swirl marks it should work well - for fine scratches you may need to start with polishing compound or even rubbing compound.

Just keep in mind that every time you use a polishing compound, you're removing finish - a microscopic amount to be sure, but you only have "so much", y'know?
