I've been wearing varifocals for about 20 years. Speaking of which, I am due to blow the equivalent of a new guitar on a new pair within the next few months...

It's nice to be able to see.

My last pair (about 3 years ago) cost me $500 and I picked the 2nd cheapest frames they had.

I am left eye dominant. My right is useless and is along for the ride. You all look better when I close my left eye. :sneaky:

Medical schools sometimes have a short class in "How to get clients to respect you as a young looking doctor". One of the tips is to wear glasses with clear glass in them.

@of this world Do you think maybe this is a small scale version of how Sinclair Lewis felt?

No I haven't read it, but thanks for the pointer. I will check it out.

Apparently in the Soviet Union, they had a major government effort to use such a program. The goal was to greatly reduce costs to the government (which paid/pays for health care & glasses) for eyeglasses.

My Russian GF had a book on the process. I attempted to get her to translate it into English but she wasn't interested. Something, something, (well deserved) disdain for the Soviet Union and bringing any idea from there to the USA.

Seems like this book is much the same idea. I will look into it.

When I was 6 I had my vision tested and was told my vision in my left eye was weak and I would need to wear glasses to correct that. In my 6-year-old mind I thought since only one eye was bad I would have to wear a monocle, like Col. Klink, and was quite relieved when I got regular glasses like the other kids.

I wore bifocals for decades, then had cataract surgery, now my far away vision is perfect and only need reading glasses (2.75). I didn't realize the world is so colorful, sharp and bright.
