I have sold about 25 items on Reverb but I created a “shop”. If you DO have a real shop you can identify it as your Reverb shop as well but for individuals like me, I think it just gives a type of “professionalism” to your selling presence. That may work on first time buyers but I think anyone who shops at Reverb repeatedly understands that the “shop” is usually little more than an expanded avatar. The one functional thing about a shop is that it allows you to initiate “sales”, which are likely just price reductions in order to get your listing(s) sold. They are defined at a “shop” level. Plus, buyers can Follow a particular shop to keep informed about their gear for sale, which may or may not be useful.
My take is that it's their excuse for having buyers pay sales tax on used gear bought from regular folks.
The "shop" thing has been there for much much longer than the sales tax mandate. I started selling on Reverb about 12 years ago and there was no taxes but we all had "shops".
What made me really wonder about it is I was updating some of my details on Reverb, and I was unable to save because I didn't put an address for my shop. I don't want to include my home address on Reverb..

You don't need to put your home address, you just need a return address. Obviously, if you are going to sell and ship things or buy things and have them shipped to you, you need somewhere for them to be sent or returned to. Although, I must say people with weird addresses on reverb are the worst...only time I've ever had problems as a seller.
