Nope. Being realistic. I never loan anything that I can't lose. Money...cars...guitars...amp...whatever.

Sometimes you just gotta let it go. :)

Yep. It doesn't matter how tight the friendship is, or how close the family is. Once the item, whether money or otherwise, is lent out, it rarely comes back. If I REALLY value something, there's usually a reason why I can explain why I'm not in a position to "loan it" at this moment. The other party will either understand, or you weren't that close to begin with.

The Bassman may have picked up some bad habits since it’s been on shredder duty.

probably safer to get a new amp.

Fly out to see your son. Bring a bottle of good scotch. Share more than few drinks. Reminisce as to the memorable times had with said amp. Pour it on, the scotch and the sentiment. Ask where your amp is.:(

Cut him off dead and leave it be. Start a running instagram story called, "Spending My Son's Inheritance" and post pictures of yourself Tarpon Fishing and enjoying what could have been his.

As much as it may hurt, giving it back doesn't seem to interest him either. So he doesn't need the father. Family is not a matter of genetics...it's a matter of behavior.

What if you just asked "When was the last time you played that one amp I loaned you?" and went silent to wait on his response.

Buy a Deluxe Reverb and don't ever bring up the Bassman again.

I've loaned my son loads of gear. I usually find out years later when I go to look for it...

I just buy a new one if I really needed it in the first place.

Well, I loaned my son a Fender Bass Amp so that he could have something to play the bass that I gave him for his wife to learn on. As he lived four hundred miles away from me at the time, I eventually just told him to keep it.

Well a few years later, last year, he brought it to me with all of his music gear to store in my music room while he moved across the country due to his being in the Army.

He talked to his wife and they decided to give the amp and the bass back to me. Turns out he discovered that bass wasn’t somehow easier than playing guitar, and his wife had only played the bass once in the three years they had it.

Put it to your son this way....tell him you miss it and would like to take it back home with you and that you are going to leave it to him in your will. When I die, my son is instructed to take a couple of my guitars and amps to keep and play and pass down to his kids. The rest he is to help my wife sell. I should probably make a will, but my wife knows my wishes, and everything basically becomes hers when I croak.

I'm not saying he sold it, I'm just saying he no longer has the amp in his possession

    A loan is exactly that.
Imaging "Big Tony" asking for his loan back

He should do the right thing and return it! Ask for it again.

Ahhhhh .... you were probably going to give it to him one day anyway . Just a material thing , nothing worth causing a row over with your son .

    .

    Just get a pedal...

You'd have shipping and potential damage to get the amp back.

Your son likely thinks fondly about you every time he fires up Dad's old amp.
