I felt like I wasn’t getting enough volume out of my new player series SSS strat and I noticed that the pickups were factory set very low, almost flush with the pick guard. So, I followed Fender’s recommendation for pickup height and this is what I got. Granted, I used a 1/32” ruler. Their guideline for basic single coils (I’m guessing the player series Alnico’s are considered basic?) is 5/64” on the bass side and 4/64” on the treble side. I think I got close enough but maybe not 100%. The guitar definitely sounds louder through my DSL40cr now, and that funky quack is still there, but I might have lost some of the woody tone from the instrument itself. I wanted to see what yours looks like. How close are you to Fender’s recommendation? If you go further in any direction, higher or lower, what are the benefits or disadvantages beside magnet interference. Here’s what mine looks like after adjustment.
