2019 Jackson JS1XM 28.6 Short Scale, EXL-170S (45-65-80-100). My newest toy is a Hotone Thnuder Bass 5W amp head. I think I'm good for amp & cab, I can always run the Hotone into a more powerful amp bypassing the Hotone's power section & using another amp's power. The Hotone is a 18V DC preamp pedal essentially. With the Pulse PM15H amp head, I end up with a 15W 6V6GT powered version of a Ampeg SVT Blueline.

Here and now
Warmoth neck, MIM Fender 70's Classic Series body, Curtis Novak Darkstars. I installed the pickups for my Bass Player and when he was ready to try something new I just bought the loaded body from him and added the neck. Much better Bass than I require.

Don't have mine yet. Looking for a cheapo to play with. Got my eye on this but still talking myself into it:

Meanwhile, I met a guy a few blocks from me who buys up cheap basses, does a refinish if necessary, does a pro setup, balances them, as needed, and then resells them for a couple hundreds bucks. He also builds customs from scratch, hiring out the CNC and other work which others do better. Meeting up with him this weekend to check out 7 or 8 ones he's got for sale.

I'm thinking I should have something by next week one way or the other.

Here’s a couple I built. Both have Black Korina bodies with a hand-rubbed Tung Oil finish, flame maple necks, one with a Wenge fretboard, the other with Purpleheart. Both have Alembic PUs and electronics, and Babicz full contact bridges.

Nothing fancy here. 2 of these were just $75 off Craigslist. Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar, Ibanez Mikro, Sx VTG fretless medium scale, Washburn XB-100 unlined fretless. Strings are half-rounds, groundwounds, DR Legends (glassy!!) and tapes.

The only way to find what ya like is to play it all. I really like medium scale now that I tried it, and I prefer something less zingy than regular roundwound strings.

Had I not found the Jackson for sale or something similar, I was considering a Basswood Monoprice Bass They have 34 scale P-Bass & Jazz Bass, as well as a 28.6 3/4 traveler for $ 149.99. I almost couldn't believe my eyes when the Jackson was out there for $ 100 and about 30 miles away. I passed on a Ampeg BA-108 (V1) amp for $ 50 in that area too a couple of weeks back. But since I was able to get the Hotone Thunder Bass amp head, I'm fine with missing out on that deal though. There's a BA-108 (V2) in Jacksonville Beach for $ 70 on Facebook Marketplace if anyone is local enough to be interested.

One on the left is a parts P-Bass I made with a GFS paulownia body and neck, single Tonerider pickup, lightweight GoToh tuners, and a high-mass bridge. It weighs 7 lbs. Right is a Player Series short-scale Mustang PJ bass, weighs about the same. Lately I use the P-Bass to lay down tracks and the Mustang is my fun jamming bass.

Douglas WVEB-833 short scale violin bass stock with flats. Thumps like a champ.
