Getting a great deal on a 59 strat....just looking for some input..not sure if I should do a custom color or sunburst ? Maybe light relic checking?
Wouldn't mind seeing some refinished pictures you guys have done...

Sounds exciting - you may as well go custom color if that's what you're into. It should be easier to get "right" than a sunburst. A lot of sunburst refins I see look less than convincing, but I've seen some great custom color refins!

I tried to dip it for a swirl paint job. I apparently used the wrong kind of paint and it glopped up. The guy I was bilding it for told me not to sand it but keep going with it because it was so unique. He was playing it in one of his three locally professional bands and even took it on the midwestern US tour a few years ago.

My 2 cents worth, if you are getting a real 1959 Strat I personally would not do anything to it except enjoy it. Guarantee she is beautiful as is and you will decrease the value.

Coolest paint job I ever did. Painted it red then had my two sons put their hand prints on the front. They were 7 and 1 1/2 at the time. They are now 31 and almost 25...

I'm seeing some totally awesome refurbs here that wouldn't necessarily suit a 1959 Stratocaster!:D

Okay everyone, I think we can assume the OP's guitar doesn't have the original finish on it!!

When I got my 63 strat, it was all original apart from a white refinish. Not a nice white refinish. We're talking "appliance white" from a rattle can.

It was also my hope to buy a Fiesta Red strat, so replacing the rattle can white was a no-brainer. Thing about a refinished strat is that once it's refinished, it's always refinished. So if it's already been done - well or poorly - getting it nicely redone in your favorite color will take no value away from the guitar. Might it even improve its value!

Note to fledgling photographers: your camera might have a white balance function, that will help with the color accuracy of you images under different lighting conditions - if true color accuracy is a goal. Personally, I don't bother, as I just shoot snapshots these days.

My '65. When I got it, it was already refinished. Rattle can red. Ugh. So I went custom color. Inca Silver.
