Yeah, I thought it was kind of encouraging myself.

Can you imagine what it would be like if 16 million took up the accordion or bag pipes?

Indeed, they're are plenty of counter examples among the youth but your experience has been mine as well. I was quite excited 3 years ago when I was asked to mentor a music club at the small University where I taught (until I retired this year). At the time, it consisted of 5 students - a guitarist, bass player, keyboardist, and a couple of singers. They had open jam sessions regularly. A couple of years ago, four of those students graduated and the new club prez took the club into the land of work stations and Fruity Loops. The club tripled in size. Most members play no instruments but make very professional sounding recordings by manipulating pre-existing audio samples musically aided by artificial intelligence algorithms - describing themselves as "sound chemists". I learned from them that there exist these powerful recording techniques that I think are even more valuable in the hands of someone with knowledge of harmony. This technological route is particularly great for those making movie soundtracks and folks into grooves and EDM. I still prefer to play my instruments and record in a more old-school fashion. Retirement had been nice for that.

I took up guitar about 3 years ago, and I’ve been trying to get a band together, but no one seems interested in my school unfortunately. I’m holding out hope for University years. In the mean time though, I’ve fallen in love with buying and selling gear, and just playing. Definitely in the minority as far as music taste goes, too- so that doesn’t help with prospective members.

The good news is that playing in a college bar band now pays the same as when I was in college, in the 1970's. That's the same actual dollar amount.

As if I was going to wait for these people to sell their gear.
If I want something, I just get it
