    Skunk Stripe necks that is.

Me I prefer necks without. But as with a lot of things, for me its a aesthetic choice.

I like the 'without' look, but I also like maple fingerboards...

As long as the scent glands have been removed then I think keeping them in the house is just fine.

For me it depends. If it's a 1 piece neck/fretboard, the stripe is okay. Gotta put the truss rod in somehow right?

But if it's a separate fretboard glued on to the neck.... No. Just No.

I prefer the look of a skunk stripe, even on rosewood/etc fretboards - even though it's not historically accurate.....not sure why, I just do....

For arguments sake, let’s say 3% of the square root of the overall mass of the guitar + 42.

I don't have a dog in this fight and don't really care but now I am thinking about being a kid out in the sticks and going outside and been greeted by sad stinky dogs in the morning.

Depends on who is playing it. ;)

I'm used to seeing the stripe on maple and no stripe on rosewood. So that's my take. Maple caps look weird to me...stripe on a rosewood board gets the same reaction.

Like I said...it's what I'm used to. I imagine that if in '71 I got a maple cap Tele...then it'd be different. LOL

I too have never really given it much thought.

I stay awake some nights trying to determine whether the single vintage style truss rods sound better than modern bi-flex rods though...

I've had the old CSL since 1982, the cap has never bothered me because it's such a nice neck and incredibly stable, which is much more important to me than how it was made.

Personally, I'm indifferent, but i totally understand why some people prefer one of the other. For instance, I prefer guitars painted in nitro more than poly even though I don't believe it makes a noticeable or possibly any difference to the sound, but i still like nitro better. I voted it's a crutch because that is the only option that doesn't prefer one over the other and because that option was funny too. :)
