Ah! I should probably have mentioned that I always use my monitors for monitoring the guitar when I use the DI for recording, the cab isn't even connected then.

Forgot to mention that I monitor the guitar through the monitors...

I use a PCM80 live - that's what easily convinced me to buy the Lexicon plugins when they came out.
    Expensive but very high quality.

    Sure you can. ;)

To expect to record exactly what you hear in the room is a very great expectation. A 57 and a Royer 121 on the cab will not sound alike or like what you hear in the room. For that you need a nice room Mic setup...either a Decca tree or at least a mid/side Mic array somewhere in the room.

And it still will not sound like what your ears hear in the room. Get a clear tone at a good level and a good performance that fits with the backing.

Tone...can easily be manipulated. . Then mix. ;)

That tone was was created by Hendrix, but it was captured by the guy behind the console -- Eddie Kramer! We all know what you're trying to do, but the truth is creating a great guitar tone ---hands>guitar>amp>ears--- and capturing that same tone require very different knowledge, skills, and experience to do them equally well.

There are only a handful of famous guitarists (that I know) who are also known for being great at recording and engineering, etc., their own recorded sound.

    *PLUS* what Fezz sez! ;)

    @Cerb

PM me and send me the tracks/stems. The guitar part and the backing. Make sure there's a count at the front so I can line them up in Logic. They can be mp3's.

I'll get you close to the sound you want. :)

Just remember...Voodoo Chile was recorded at the Record Plant. Bassman head through (probably) a 2x12 closed back cab. An M160 in front of it, plus all the bleed in the room since it was tracked live.

And it's not what I would call clean. :)

Thank you, I will. I will just have to polish it a bit if you're going to put time on it :)

Its just for guitar reference. For Dadocaster, I remixed the whole tune with all of the stems.

Brush up more on EQing if you want to cut through the mix better :)

From Brian Wampler. Makes sense to me. Give a listen and see what you think...

Best thing he said...Use the right pedal in the context of the song.

It's always about the song. Always.

FWIW...The only one that fit was the TS9. And I hate TS9's. LOL

The Fuzz wasn't bad once he added the EQ. Overall it was a bit more subdued and sounded good in the mix... like the difference between a Dio mix where the guitar slams you as hard as his voice, and something more pop where the attention is maintained on the singer.
But I agree, for a strong guitar mix, the TS9 nailed it without the EQ.

The Fuzz Face sounded like crap even with the EQ. Maybe it was the guitar which was muddy to start with. Yeech. :)

First off....this was a lot of fun. :D

This is the mixed track @Cerb sent me:

This is after about ten minutes fiddling in logic with the stems:

Here's a screen shot of the mixer:

That sounds huge compared to mine, that's an eye opener! I'll try to figure out what you did tomorrow, or later today... Somehow it's already 3:40am...

    Thanks a bunch!
