    Inside of my '58.

    Control cavity and pickguard.

Pickguard and pickups. All parts unmolested and original. Volume pot has been iffy for 15-years or so, but I can't bring myself to replace it yet.

    Pots and tone cap.

    Body date 10/58

    Neck date 10/58.

Love this guitar. Been a gig machine for years and these pickups definitely have their own thing going on. Owned, played and gigged many vintage Strats, but none have sounded like this.

    Rock on!

I took the above pics years ago. Here is a more up to date shot, OCT 2018 (60th Anniversary of this axe):

Had a setup since the above photo. Needed to shim the nut and a very light fret level. Now plays fabulous again. It was nearly unplayable at the above gig (and had been for a while).

That's wonderful. Nice how the contour paint wear has changed.

Was looking at this one for comparison. And wonder what happened to that walnut plug on the headstock?
    What do you think?

Hard to say. That guitar looks like it has been through the ringer. Could have had a replaced truss rod, or repaired. Could have been banged around and damaged.

Of course you won't change it, but do those tone caps eventually go bad? Not that I am advocating using the tone control for any reason. I understand it's in the fingers anyway.

Thanks! I measured them years ago but would have to find the notes. Don't remember anymore.

They can drift, they won't go bad. Sometimes, the value will work with you, sometimes against you... ;)

    Yeah... just for fun...

Anyway this is the way I do it. Notice that the ground coming from the back claw is not soldered on the back of the volume pot but on the jack ground wich is soldered on the back of the pot. Don't know why... It's the same... but I do that way just for sure. :)

The change to soldering the earth wire to the pot was around mid 1964.
