I just hate my own playing and nothing is right. Paradoxically, those are the days when I really get obsessed about improving so I guess there's a silver lining.

Hate is a strong word my friend...perhaps you are too critical of yourself. I'm pretty sure everyone here turns off the amp in disgust sometimes while thinking to themselves.....man I suck.

Yes, hate is a strong word...

I feel great frustration and an intense dislike then.

My golden retriever leaves the room when he just sees me grabbing a guitar :(

On days I feel like that, I just put guitar down and find something else to do.

I do the opposite, I get obsessed about improving and have to force myself to stop.

Yea, it’s a mental thing. I always play great when I’m having fun not obsessing over every flubbed note.

I like the days where everything just right then the next day it sounds terrible. Even though it's all the same equipment, settings, etc. How does that happen anyway ?

Happens to me during rehearsals. Either exactly the same gear that I switched off sounding great sounds like s**t the next time I spool it up or, at the beginning of the rehearsal I’m thinking ‘wow!’ And by the end I’m needing a new guitar, amp, picks, fingers............everything! Can’t explain it but it does, definitely, happen.

Inspiration I have, execution is lacking.

    Hi, buddy.
You might like Jake Lizzio's Theory Lessons on Youtube.

I am having to save for gear again-So I am learning theory solid stuff while saving for guitar itself.

For a guitar guy, I’m pretty good at playing the piano and Hammond....

Thanks, I do lile Jake's stuff a lot. That's not where my issues are though, it's an execution thing. I know way more theory than I habe the capacity for putting into practice, I wish it was the other way around.

Personally, I think your playing is great.

On the other hand, dissatisfaction can inspire you to reach for greater heights.
