When I was about 7 or 8 I started listening to my older brother's 45s ... Mr. Custer , Alley Oop , Ahab the Arab , Sleepwalk , Walk, Don't Run , The Twist . Once in awhile you might hear Walk, Don't Run , but you never hear the others .

I met them once after a show at the Long Beach Arena. Nice quiet boys.

As a kid, I got the 'hand me downs' from my two older brothers. My eldest brother was a child of the 50s and I played his 45s mercilessly on his old portable. You could stack a bunch of them on the spindle and it would play them until the tone arm wouldn't reach high enough. Sometimes it would drop two...the beginnings of "shuffle play". :D

It had a shifter and would play 16, 33-1/3, 45 and 78 rpm records...and it also had a "neutral" which meant I could turn spin them manually...and backwards. I'm sure my mother enjoyed that feature a lot...

A couple of record eventually got mysteriously broken. These were typically ones I played obsessively (all speeds, backwards, forwards, etc.). A 10-yr old will make noise, no matter what. Here's one of them:

Amusingly, I heard it yesterday on Sirius 50s. I sang along as the lyrics were branded in my brain by that old portable player. I can also sing along with the chipmunks, the Sparkletone's "Black Slacks" and whistle "The Poor People of Paris"...

Well, you did say "...from your childhood..." BTW, Jerry Garcia, with David Grisman, covered this song:

My Mother used to sing this to we kids, and toss in some humorous ad-libs like, in the third line of the chorus..."Watch them , catch them in their underwear..."

This one was on the radio a lot in my earliest childhood:

    It still makes me happy!

Another one is this version of an older song:

Cheers you up immediately and simultaneously removes the enamel from your teeth... :thumb:
