I'm goin' out on a limb here by saying that I quite like it.
Was once a time when I thought tortoise shell was simply vomit-inducing, but since having seen it in recent years on aged Olympic White, and even Black, I've come 'round to it.

My vote - stick with it!

I think black would be cool. I think that gold guards can work with some solid colors but not blue. But yeah mint or white in this case

Personally I can’t stand tort guards or other similar guards like that. I just hate it. The only exception is on natural clear finish guitars, then I think that a more animated guard looks good and is necessary, anything but white on natural finish.

But yeah for burst, I’d say only white or black, or mint I guess. Maybe gold. For solid colors it depends on the color matching

That red tort is not a good look on Sonic Blue. Brown tort would be much, much better.

Mint is just wrong, sorry.

If brown tort doesn't work for you, just go with white. White was what came standard on a Sonic Blue Strat back in the day.

Yep, I was thinking much the same thing.

The red tones are wrong for this. A brown tort pickguard has shades that will pick up the colours of the neck and the rosewood fretboard and should be a much more complimentary match for Sonic Blue.

It’s still a personal preference as to whether anyone likes it or thinks it would work but brown will definitely look better than red tort in this combo.

White works with any colour. Leo knew that.

Off White, Red on blue just doesn't go, IMHO. mint belongs on Ben and Jerrys

Love it! I like the contrast like that on really light color bodies. Personally, I might've tried red tort or even blue tort, but the brown is classic!

Ha! Don’t disagree…!

My own ST62 in Sonic Blue had worn its unfaded original white-black-white pickguard for years before I finally got a period appropriate mint one.

The pup covers and knobs have yellowed quite a bit over the last 30+ years and the guitar itself has turned into something closer to Surf / Seafoam Green. The mint guard actually tones pretty well with the guitar and helps to make the finish look a little less yellowed (the bright white was beginning to look a little garish!). I have been toying with getting a brown tort guard for it a long time. I may still do it just for the hell of it.

Try Ivory. I'm a convert.
Not sonic blue, I know, but hopefully shows the subtleness of the off white. At some angles/light, you could mistake it for a very faint mint green.

With this snot green y'all love so much, you do know that it was unintentional, don't you? It was a mistake, Leo unintentionally used a type of plastic that allowed the black to leach through & turn it all a nasty colour. Once Leo realised this (1964?) he changed to a decent type of plastic that didn't fail in this ugly way.

So you're all trying to replicate an ugly mistake that Leo hated & that only lasted maybe 4 or 5 years.

Hmmm... 😐

Sorry I think torty with Sonic Blue is horrible. Torty IMO only goes well with a red or white body.

But just about any other color PG goes with Sonic - mint green being my preference.
