I have been cleaning, purging etc. for the last few days and in the course of such I have been looking for parts to make myself a little dedicated drill press for pcb work. I already have several sets of different carbide bits going down in size to what almost looks like a hair but they will indeed drill holes if kept steady as in "not by hand". Having already raped an old dead dvd drive for the sliders to guide the drill, I kept hunting. Stumbling in the mess and cursing fluently to myself, I found..."The Box".

This box is one that I gathered up when my Dad passed 12yrs ago, it has sat for the duration and when I opened it I found a complete, unused Unimat 1 Classic! The Unimat is a modular tool kit out of which you can construct a lathe (wood or metal), vertical/horizontal mill, drill press, grinder/sander, scrollsaw and more. Austrian made 80s/90s. I built myself a little precision drill press that will treat those tiny fine bits right.

This will be further modded of course but what a ready made starting point! Thank you Dad...gone 12yrs and still doing your best to take care of me.

It is indeed and the funniest part of the whole thing was finding this while I was trying to come up with parts to make it...I already had it and didn't know it!

Very cool. I'm planning on cleaning the garage while my wife and daughter are in Bulgaria and Croatia in a couple of weeks. What they don't know won't hurt them. :whistling:

My Dad would buy the "best of" whatever and he never bought the basics, he bought everything that went with it as well so this is a great kit...TOTL vacuum sealer with every accessory that he bought a year before he passed sat unused until my Mum told me to take it all home because she had no interest in it! I'm the kid that grew up in the house with the McIntosh/Klipschorn sound system and I guess I got some of my "addictons" from my Dad and some on my own...Strats n' Cadillacs! BTW, I hope these mechanical/DIY aid posts don't label me the forum "tool":D

    Sounds like a cool man.
I think we are all a bit of "tools", it just matters if we are the sharper or duller ones in the drawer.:p

I am very well versed and experienced in the sharpening of tools but a "tool"?...I offer you no guarantee..."the material is extremely dense and is not easily shaped by any known means". :D

So many ways I can go, so many things I could say. I better just keep quiet.

    Very nice find!

I'm afraid you said it, not us. Not to worry. I doubt anyone will remember "the tool" in a future post.

Stick around, I have a history here of "sayin' stuff" and if you're not careful you just might get a laugh, a thought and a feel for the ST clan (the jury is out) as we are (you too) to boot...or well, we'll not discuss that right now!:sneaky::thumb:

If I come across another Unimat I'm calling it "parts/transformer"!:D
