At first glance I thought this was a VM squire , however I don't recall them offering a hardtail in this range , my guess it's an older squire body with a VM neck stuck onto it.

Don't know about the body, but I have a VM neck on a partscaster and am very pleased. Yours should be a great player.

Top mounted pickups? That doesn't look like a standard. AFAIK they never offered a hardtail standard or VM

I'm not sure if all VM necks are the same but mine only has one string tree

I too have a strat with a VM neck that I really like (one string tree also). It feels perhaps a bit thinner than the CV necks I have but it's really nice to play on too. So if the fiddle sounds good and plays good, it's all good. Personally, I think I'd like to do a hardtail strat someday.

Well that's not really a standard, I mean technically it may be. Sure it's got a standard neck, but it's a limited edition body.
