Do you not know how to string or set up a guitar, OP? I don't get why you're so worried about it.

    All over the place!
    I'm with the OP!
The guitar is pictured as whole and should be sent as such imho.
Putting a neck back on is easy, yes, but so is cracking the paint in the usual places if the neck is a tight fit in the pocket.
On a positive note the guitar can be set up to the OP's specs as soon as it arrives, IF he knows how to do that.
At least he has asked the seller now so we might find out. :D

    As am I.
It has nothing to do with anything other that how it was represented at the time of sale. Had the OP wanted it broken down, the OP is able to ask for that.

Being told by the seller, after the fact, of an undisclosed element begs the question...
what other undisclosed elements might present themselves?

Is there a reason for what comes off as condescending? Wouldn't someone changing the conditions after the sale bother you?

But who said it was broken down? Not the seller. Guitarmageddon presented a "what if" scenario that's been ran with by some and taken as fact, it appears.

So far, the only thing anyone knows for a fact is that it won't come with strings on it. Which isn't nearly as big of a deal as its been made out to be.

I bought a set of strings on reverb. The pic. showed them on a reasonable Tele but I bought them only to be told that they’d be shipped without a guitar attached. Seems daft to me, what am I gonna do with a set of strings?

He’d have to learn, no bad thing for the future?

Can’t help but think that the chances of strings damaging frets in transit are slim, especially considering that frets are designed to have strings pressing against them? Sounds to me a little like the ‘replace strings one at a time so as not to distort the neck’ theory. There are those who will state that removing them all for shipping will create issues. Taken off all six at one time for years and never had the slightest problem.

You can, but then you’ve got a partcaster. I’ve got a ‘65 Strat. Over the years I’ve changed the body, neck (twice), pickups and scratch plate but I’ll never change the strings. Other parts can be re-instated it’s nigh on impossible to re-use strings.

I would just ask the seller what their rationale is for shipping sans strings on. Keep it simple.

All we KNOW is that he’s taken the strings off! Let’s see if any of the predicted doomsday possibilities occur. If I were the OP I’d be severely stressed by now!

I’d be worried that the neck has a severe back bow.

The part of my comment that mentions "broken down" was in response to @s5tuart 's
    comment...the part quoted...

My response to your comment was in the form of two questions.

Why don’t you ask the seller what happened to the strings that were on the guitar when it was photographed for the ad?
I think that would be the correct course of action to take instead of assuming anything without knowing why it has no installed strings.
    Just an idea.
