Does anyone else agree that locking strap buttons sound edgier, woodier, and with slightly more bass than non locking buttons?

I always thought that it depends on the colour of the felt washers. The white washers help with the 'ice picky' sound that others call 'quacky', 'chimey' or 'spanky'. However, you need to deep freeze them or soak them in liquid nitrogen.

Locking strap buttons make noise. That’s for sure. It’s why I don’t use them.

All of mine are black. Definitely best for metal and power slop shoe gaze prog.

It’s vintage strap buttons all the way.
Sounds more vintagey if I may say.

I am definitely a metal guy so I really like the heavy Schallers that make my average weight guitar hurt my shoulder, neck and back.

I like using those beer bottle rubber seal rings, gives my guitars sort of a frothy tone.

Chrome coated strap pins are too pingy. I prefer nickel. Nickel balances out the steel as a tone metal.

So that's why my Strat feels like it's missing that final 0.001% of vintage mojo!

Locking buttons are woodier, more heady, whispy-er, with a hint of mint, non-locking are more full bodied, earthy, with a light after-taste and a there's a feeling I get when I look to the West, and my spirit is crying for leaving.

Bloody amateurs, first thing I do when I get a new guitar is take those tone sucking strap buttons off, then I nail the strap directly onto the body, I find it gives the guitar a much better I've nailed a strap to the body type sound.

Absolutely! This has been confirmed by scientists all over the globe. Don't waste you money on pickups or or silly things, get strap locks!

i swore by dunlop strap locks and had them on all 3 of my electrics.

then 1 day the front lock snapped off, no damage but now i am allergic to strap locks.

Use the beer bottle washers --
Guitars always sound better after some beer.

Locking ones make a clicking sound when attaching the strap. There is no way they change the sound of the guitar unless the mass differential is dramatic which it isn’t.
