    Hello everyone,
I have two modern American Strats: a Jeff Beck and a 2011 standard. Both of those have neck pocket depths at 5/8”.

I also have two vintage “style” strats- a 2011 SRV and a 2020 Squier CV 50s. Both of these have much more shallow neck pockets. They’re both a full 2 mm more shallow than the two modern strats I own.
The only thing I can think is that the modern 2 point bridge is meant to have the saddles closer to the body.
All of these guitars are set-up well and play great, but I actually find that I prefer the shallow neck pocket. It allows me to mute the strings easier with my picking hand since the strings are higher off of the body. My question is: is it normal for the strat neck pocket to be much less than 5/8”? I could understand a little variance like 1/32”, but 2mm less is quite a lot, especially in the current age of Cnc program routers, etc.
    Thanks:)

5/8" is standard for a Strat/Tele neck pocket depth

Are the neck heels the same thickness?

    Yes; they’re all one inch.

Interesting. My understanding is the older Strats were 5/8" and lot of the newer ones with the two-point bridge were 11/16. I have a non-Fender Strat with a neck pocket that is much deeper, but it has a thicker neck to compensate.
