Having listened to the other takes, I can tell I need to up my game. :sneaky: What I signally failed to do last time was compose a good head, then return to it. As a result, it's all a bit 'make a jazz noise here'. Also, I'm bending notes like a blues player, which no one playing this style properly would ever do. (A .013 on the first and a wound third tends to make sure of that...)

A one off - didn't listen to any of the posted or referenced tracks on my first attempt I did try to incorporate the a bit of triad though:

Well...I do hear a hint of a theme there trying to break through. Playing a theme (a refrain), creating a contrafact, is the integral part of the challenge. It is the challenge. :D

What I hear ( and I did enjoy listening, don't think I didn't) is the usual pent box playing kind of camouflaged by some random half-steps in an attempt to sound "gypsy".

    This is for everyone:

In the original thread, I said that the A Harmonic minor scale would be the bread & butter for this track. Here it is:

Noodle around with this. Also, I laid out an attack plan earlier for Relaxing at Cam. Take a look at it. ;)

This is one of those things that kind of needs a reference point. Do not treat these challenges like the jam threads where you avoid listening to other participants takes to avoid being influenced by them. You should listen to them and the original...you should be influenced by them and the original, but still find your own path through the tune. You cannot learn or create in a vacuum. Take them in...and spit them out in your own way.

No messing up here. You paid attention to the progression (especially love the top where you play the chord tones/triads), quoted the original and wrote your own melody. This is spot on man. Spot friggin' on. A few more passes and you'll be killing this. Very exciting.

If it feels good....do it. That's a rule that can be broken IMO. :D

Well, at least I'm consistent Chris. I'll get better at following the tips, directions and guidelines.

Dang, thanks Fezz. I kept thinking I was missing chords after the return to A, and some other little things, but I guess I'm being overly critical again. Thanks a lot!

Thanks, I enjoyed the track a lot. My playing seems have moved this way over a couple of years doing challenges.

omar you're sounding good... now practice every day dammit or i'm sending the ghost of zorro to cut a hole in your car's roof in the shape of a heart! (which would be kind of awesome, so either way you're good.)

Thank you brother :) I have my ups and downs frequently. Last night I started learning “Shallow”, it nice and easy. I find myself longing for change ;)

Not remotely corny. Melody that you can follow is never corny. See Irving Berlin and Cole Porter. :D

This is one of the most popular - and one of the easier - Gypsy jazz standards. even bluegrassers like Grisman play it.

One of my live versions of this tune, using a loop pedal and a Selmer copy guitar.
