Hi everybody I have a Stratocaster from 1966. I am considering selling it, but have no idea what it is worth. Can anybody help? Pete
Pete it's a difficult question for anybody to answer, without knowing more details such as originality, condition etc. 60's guitars are collectable, however CBS took over Fender in 1965, so pre 66 guitars tend to fetch more than those produced in the early days of CBS. The Blue book (8th Edition) values a 66 Strat as between $2500 -$5500, depending on condition By contrast the earlier 60's Strats are valued between $4500-$12000 Having said that, any 60's Strat will appreciate in value as the earlier ones get harder to find. Take a look at the following sites. http://www.provide.net/~cfh/fender.html http://www.provide.net/~cfh/value.html If it was me I would keep it. Wish I hadn't sold my 63 Strat back in 1980 :x
My suggestion would be to get as many documentary pictures as possible and fleabay it. http://cgi.ebay.com/Original-1966-F...yZ118987QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem Depending on how original it is, you can fetch a good price for it. Much moreso than the "8th edition blue book" value...
Well my book is an older one, I think the 9th or 10th is out. Anyway, no one has bought the one on the bay..yet, at that BIN
Pete what color is your 66 Stratocaster? The reason I am asking cause I am looking up in Vintage Guitar Magazine Price guide to see what the price is.
Well, how about this for a guideline - http://cgi.ebay.com/1963-64-Fender-...1QQihZ005QQcategoryZ47069QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
