For $1500 a Stratocaster should have Blue Tooth and wifi and direct usb inputs and outputs to recording sources, onboard electronic tuner, digital volume and tone controls and maybe a built in player mode like the old player pianos. Vintage whatever, this has been the space age for at least five decades. It probably should be made of carbon fiber also so that it is environmentally correct. An onboard wireless microphone so that you can do voice accompaniment conveniently. I am just saying. Even Harley Davidson's are getting water cooling today.

Not sure about all that, but a built-in wireless surely wouldn't set them back to much.

...aannnnddd... that would be the exact opposite of my dream Strat.. For a dinosaur like me, a simple plank w/some hardware and electronics, just like Leo cranked 'em out in '54... or '59... or '62... or even what CBS was producing in '65, '69... hell... even '72... Those're MY Dream Strats.

That's what makes the world go 'round, and Vive la Difference!!!:p

Options are good but given that fender will sell you the same thing at $150 and $10,000 id hate to think what something new would cost.

Not so sure about this part. CF is very difficult to recycle and loses a considerable amount of strength when it is recycled. It can't simply be melted and reused, so it'll be around for millennia. Wood (without heavy finishes) remains more eco-friendly :) So, the hi-tech axe should probably be built on a foundation of naked wood.

Those features would make me run, not walk from a guitar. Yuck.

Women have had the same parts for a lot longer than five decades. You wanna "upgrade" those too?

I need blue tooth and wifi on a guitar almost as much as I need them in a car.

    Not at all.

    Pass my tinfoil hat. :D

That sounds like a terrible Strat. I for one would never buy that. I don't even like those ones they made a few years back with the mini usb out. The more crap you put in the chain with the pickups the more you degrade the tone. Besides nothing sounds better than a proper mic in front of a real amp pushing air.

No, because the next step is a fitbit type implant that makes you feel guilty if you haven't played it enough, and an alarm that goes off to alert you when it's time to change strings. See, you're just about to cross the line where you're serving your stuff rather than having it serve you. Who's getting played here?

That's not a Strat I would be interested in. The "player piano type" feature would be popular with posers with no talent, they could lip sync to the pre-recorded track (which has sadly and infamously been done) and let the guitar do its thing.

All in all it sounds like an update for the 1970s Univox...

I think you're getting into the spirit of the original post - that's a great horrible idea!

It also needs a lithium ion battery that's soldered-in and costs $100 to replace.

The whole neck should also be a touchscreen.

    What else can we add?
