I’m thinking of installing 2 x Tonerider Rebel P90s onto my Strat. The bridge is 2 7/12” or 56mm wide on the string spacing front.

The Toneriders are all 50mm spacing.

Does this mean a total no go?

won't make much sound difference, IMO. I have a strat where the strings simply don't line up with the poles very well, still my best sounding strat. If the poles are in the vicinity of the strings, they will pick up the sound.

I've never factored in spacing in a pickup purchase. I've put wider spaced pickups in a super narrow strung Affinity strat.

Yeah I’ve never taken notice before either. But due to being bored in lockdown I think I’ve turned pedantic!

    cheers

Your question prompted me to do a little research.

If you look at this vid, bear in mind that the magnetic lines of force produced by the magnets in your pickups extend BOTH in 3 dimensions, and are NOT cut off at the north and south poles of the individual slugs as drawn in the diagrams.

That means they extend for some distance ( not determinable here ) away from each pole piece.

So it doesn’t matter THAT much if the string-to-pole piece alignment is not exact.

There maybe a volume drop on bass E and treble E, but high output pups won't make much difference.
F spacing pups will have a slightly higher DCR. Compared to G spacing.

EMF is about an inch around pup.

Well I’m edging slowly towards getting this guitar finished. Here’s a photo of the pups on a pickguard.
I’m using Tele style vol/tone knobs.

Here is one that I did. They don't come close to lining up on the bridge p'up but it still has monster sound.
