I'm wanting to try a talk box due to pure boredom and lack of social life.
Can anyone suggest a good one?
    Thanks

    What’s your budget?
Not that I know anything about them, but I am bored too.

The mxr is the only one I’ve ever seen in a store. Therefore it is a good one.

Talk Boxes are gross. Get a Boss Vocoder instead.

You can do the talk box thing and so much more without the annoying slobber tube that has to be cleaned or it grows bacteria and fungus!

I have the Boss VO-1, you need a mic that works without phantom power and a balanced cable in addition to the pedal.
In addition you are "blowing" (speaking or singing) into the mic, instead of just shaping your mouth.
I haven't played with it much, but it doesn't compare to a real talk box IMO.

I actually found it preferable to a tube in my mouth, but I understand old habits can be hard to break and trying new things difficult for our more "senior" stratmasters.;):p

So any of my Shure SM-57's or 58's will work. Sounds like a plan.

I have a classic Heil one. I can’t say much other than it’s a gimmick and it’s pretty gross. In 2020, it’s essentially a biohazard waiting to happen.
    Haven’t used it in years.

I know daft punk uses them to good effect with synths. With guitar, seems like it’s for Livin on a Prayer or peter Frampton cover tunes.

I have the Danelectro Free Speech unit.

I too bought it for the Peter Frampton / David G 'experience' and quickly decided it was a complete WOFTAM. Yes, it does do the thing, but really...

You don't have to put the tube all the way in, and you will slobber just as much into the mic getting it to work.

@33db While I agree you will spit into the mic, it WILL happen, it's not as gross as the tube - for me.

I wonder how many girls fell for the old "You don't have to put the tube all the way in..." line? :whistling:

    I apologize in advance.

Daft Punk is using analog or digital vocoders to produce their talking synth effects.

One thing’s for sure... the hose makes a very poor crutch.

I use the TC Helicon Talkbox Synth. Provides guitar/mic driven realistic talkbox sound or vocorder (both with or without accompanying input guitar sound, which can be notes or chords). Plus 4 different synth sounds produced via single note runs. Provides phantom power for mics requiring it. Even when the talkbox is stomped off, it can still provide a lot of vocal features such as variable auto pitch correction, and adaptive tone providing EQ, compression, de-essing, and gating. And it has built-in reverb (Room, Club, or Hall). Pretty amazing pedal, IMO. And best of all, no dirty tube.
