a lot less than there used to be though, and a lot of what remains is turning toxic.

How about water flowing under the house. o_O That's one of the surprises I'm now aquatinted with.

First thing I do when it starts raining in the Fall is to check the sump pumps. That reminds me ........... I need to get the Jerry Cans filled with fresh fuel for the generator. Bound to get at least one day+ long power outage.

Queue up The Kinks ............... Living on a Thin Line.

I feel your pain on this one man. We have basement water issues as well. Our house is a 100 year old Victorian that we purchased 20 years ago. About three years ago, the water ceased coming in right by the sump and started coming in about 20 feet away with about 3 times the volume!

The house sits on a steep hill just below a fault line so there are many natural springs in the area, we have a stream and pond in our backyard so who knows what's going on underground. We had a power outage last winter that had me hand bailing water out of the sump for a few hours into a, thankfully, adjacent bathtub. Power outages here are rare, but I've gotta get a backup generator system going like you've done. I've made sure any guitars that live in the basement are well off the floor, that's for damn sure!

David Byrne has a new Broadway show that showcases a lot of the Talking Heads music done as a marching band. Saw he and the cast perform on the Tonight Show.
