Howdy: first post....I have a 82 squire Telecaster I installed a stratocaster tremelo system and a standard 3 single pick-ups and a 5way switch.............So it's a stratocaster utilities in a tele body........The trick is wiring a 3 pick-up ,5way switch with a single volume and single tone switch....Well I got it wired to switch correctly...but not much difference in tone..install a.22k something orange drop capacitor.........Problem is volume changes in tone drastically...with volume between 8and 10 it sounds extremely high pitched and distorted....I grounded the switch, tone control and volume control......Can.t find a schematic for that strat style pick-up set with a 5way switch and only one tone control....Should the tone control be wired to the switch......Don't know why the volume control shapes the sound so much...All new parts....250 cts big pots....new alnico single coil pick-ups......really cool white guitar with snake skin strat style pickguard.....over my head this time ..plus my hearing from playing in bans for 40 years has me second guessing ...thanks for the visit............................Tuco taveras

I did something similar but I only used the two tele pickups with a 5 position super switch.

As for your tone pot, parallel a wire off of the lug where the wire from the switch goes into the volume pot and send it to the tone pot.
The same as you would for a tele.

Got a diagram of what you wired?

All pickups to switch. Hot from switch goes to volume control on one end. Other end of volume pot is grounded. Wiper (center) goes to output jack.

Tone control hangs off the volume control. Wire goes to one end of the pot. Wiper on tone pot has capacitor attached and the other end of the capacitor is grounded. Other end of tone pot hangs open.

I'd hang the tone control off the output side of the volume pot wiper, aka "50's wiring". You can also hang it off the input side of the volume pot for "modern wiring". 50's wiring tends to maintain treble as you drop the volume pot down. But the curve is different... everyone has preferences.

Make sure everything is in phase properly.

Well......Heres what i did.......hot legs from pick-ups to 5way switch....switch works.......top lug volume wired to top lug on tone and to switch......middle volume lug to jack tip.......bottom lug to ground back of volume pot..........middle tone lug to .44pf cap and grounded to back of tone pot...bottom lug open......ground wired from back of tone pot to back of volume pot.....jack ground and tremelo ground to back of volume pot......and pick up grounds to back of volume pot......250k Cts pots.......but the volume distorts bas at full volume...and treble cut out fast after about leveln 8 and lower......been working on it for hours.....getting real good at soldering......ther must be something i am missing.....should the switch be grounded some how too...I am getting a new switch...thanks for your help

.

I generally only use a 4-way on a Tele for a stealth LP.

Here are a few 5-way Teles. I use a Arlo cocked wah circuit on an HH guitar I have.

Why do you write with the constant ellipsis?

Gee ...it's easier.....thought that was obvious.....not hard to follow...40 years an electrician..we don'type anymore than needed..........so any ideas what's might be wrong besides my grammer???haha
Howdy,.....I think my "ellipsis" is that I did not ground the 5way switch.......I will try that and see if it works

That neck looks nice. Any pics of the back?

Draw us a diagram or schematic of what you wired.

The 5 positions are
1. Bridge
2. Bridge/Neck (out of phase)
3. Bridge/Neck (parallel)
4. Bridge/Neck (in series)
5. Neck
It's a very versatile guitar for sure and the only Tele that I've been able to get on with.
