Tele vs Strat

    From the picture linked the pickup has its metal cover in place.
    Some "lower priced" pickups with a metal cover use a material that interferes with the magnetic properties of the pickup causing lower output or a dimmer sound.

    Before replacing the pickup altogether, I'd be tempted to remove the cover to determine if that's the cause of its tone character.

    I don't dislike the tone. I think I'll just try wiring it without the tone control.

    If you like playing it, it is worth upgrading.
    new pickups wont make it more valuable, so you are better off buying pups you like and taking them out when you want to sell it and put them in something else later.
    But yeah.

    If you enjoy the feel of it, It is totally worth making better.
