Holy crap, that's less than I paid for mine 3 years ago which was a bargain at $299!! I had to have some setup and fret cleanup done on mine, but I didn't mind especially at this price! It's one of my favorite guitars and I gigged it a number of times. I'm no tele expert but it seems to me to be the classic tele configuration...single coils with brass barrel saddles. I like the 6 individual saddle setup. The color and finish work on mine was gorgeous. Yeah, I'd say if you have tele GAS and are on a budget...look no further!.
That’s a pretty sweet price - if you can part with the funds and can’t live without a Tele, I’d do it...
I don't know if you can actually come up with an average. G&L, like Fender, seems to have a pretty broad range but with a basswood body I'd guesstimate 7 1/2 - 8 1/2 lbs.
G&L does offer a left handed version just not at that price. MF and others appear to be moving out some overstocked models lately. I picked up an Epi ES339 P90 Pro awhile ago from $350 vs $499 MAP and this is the best price I've seen yet on an ASAT Classic. I paid $396 for an ASAT Special about 6 months ago and that was a helluva a good deal vs $499 MAP. MF seems to be blowing these out at close to cost.
Yeah, I've been tempted. I have been wanting a Tele style guitar for a while. I have an '81 G&L "Wunkay" bass that I love, and the Tributes seem to be pretty well put together. About the only thing stopping me it that I've also been jonesing for a Gibson SG, and there is a local store that has a lefty US Gibson SG 60's Tribute for $899 that is seriously tempting me.
Haha, those old "Wunkays" are like a cult classic. G&L brought them back as one of the CLF Research Models. The Tributes are very nice instruments or at least the 3 I have are. I have a Kiloton which is a bit like a "Wunkay" with the pickup moved back a bit. More mid forward than the L1000. I also have an L2500 and an ASAT Special. Those MFD pickups are incredible in a Tele style guitar.
Great deal but too pretty to hang with the likes of me. I would just get it real dirty ,hang it up and forget about it..
MF will ship to the UK won't they? Of course if they charge extra for shipping and you get hit with VAT maybe nothing is gained due to that. I'm seldom shopping for what they offer on those "Deal of the Day" promos and I already have 5 Teles including a G&L ASAT Special so I passed on what was an incredible deal for anyone who was looking to buy a nice traditional Tele. But earlier this spring they did offer an Epiphone ES339 P90 Pro for $349 that typically goes for $499. That one I did jump on.
Just as an FYI.....the model that MF sells every once in a while (in their deal of the day) is not the same as the regular ASAT Tribute...it is a lesser version....simple things like pickups are not the American ones in the more expensive Tribute models....I think there are other differences also, just can't remember at the time....
Yep, unfortunately that's true of all of the FSR model G&Ls they stick on their "Deal of the Day" promos. Buddy of mine who has a Tribute JB ordered one just so he could compare them. You are correct. They don't use the same US made pickups or tuners as standard Tribbys and none of them use a saddle lock bridge. To the best of my knowledge they are still built by Cortek but at a level to sell for $100 or more less and not the same as those that sell at $499. They also ship straight to the dealer and are not inspected in CA before shipment. IMHO they're more on the level of a Squier or perhaps a bit better whereas the standard Tributes are IME far above that level in all respects. Still, for under $300 that Tele is a very serviceable guitar provided you get shipped a good one.
