The biggest, oldest trees drip the longest after it rains..... it's part of what makes them (and you) so special.

    Sophi too. :)

Our first cat, Tuffy, made it to age nineteen. He helped us to raise the boys. Eventually he stopped eating; wouldn't eat to save his life. The vet told us his systems were shutting down. We could watch him waste away or have him put down. We had him put down and I stayed by him to the end.

Next to the front door of our home was a chair. I barely made it to that chair, didn't even close the door, and commenced to some serious crying. Wasn't ashamed then, not ashamed now. Be proud, old man, that you have retained enough humanity to care.

Cats are kind of weird, In that they can live so long. My 93 year old grandmother had the same cat for 29 years. He was deaf and blind, but could still find his was to the food and litter box. He died at 29, and my grandmother died a year later. It’s hard and it hurts when you lose a 4 legged member of the family. A year ago, my beloved Pekingese died. He left an empty hole inside of me. Then a couple of months later, we were at the animal shelter, and the dog in my avatar picked my wife and I. I still miss Bandit. But Abby helps and makes things easier. she sleeps with me, and snuggles up to me, and she is playfull.

Pets are a part of our lives and when they're gone there's a huge hole to fill. I lost my little boy (Maltese) a little over a year ago and wept like a baby for a week. My little girl (toy poodle) is in her final march toward the end and it's killing me to see her a shell of her former self. It never gets easier so there's no apologies needed for having emotions.

We had to make that decision for one of ours a few years ago. And I, too, stayed right to the end. Not an old cat, but a medical emergency for which outcomes are very poor. He never would have been the same, even if we had managed to keep him more or less living.

Heartbreak of loss is never easy. Th most important thing now is to take care of yourself. Do your best, we're all with you.

2 cats, 7 dogs have left me. And recently I realized my 8 year old dog is that , 8 year old and not so young.
It’s part of the contract between us and them, they give us everything they have, then they leave

Don't know how to do that...

Just be thankful and leave it at that. And understand that you communicating your feelings has caused all of us to pause and consider and consider our non-human friends.
