Hi everyone!! Just got through radiation #2.....

    And I'm thinking.....

We've all had threads or places or times in our lives, conversations, where people might have asked about our hobbies, our pleasures, why we do the things we do....

What I want to know is, NOT what makes you feel good, like a great song, playing guitar, sailing, sitting on the beach, thrill seeking, any million number of things - NOT talk about those things.....but instead talk about how the things we do make us feel alive, the FEELINGS we get, how we feel alive even though we're not around forever....

THAT's what I want to know about everyone. Not your likes, not your dislikes, not the specific things you do, but how the good things in life make you feel....

    Discuss....

Coming back from the weekly shop in Tidworth and looking out from the top of the hill over Pewsey and seeing the whole of Pewsey vale on a clear day, the picture below doesen't do it justice.

    I'm going outside
    Look down
    The hill at the surroundings

    Post something

My GF's son and daughter-in-law had a baby three months ago. (My GF and I have been together almost 20 years.)

I never had children of my own. I don't even like children.

But, the moment they put that little boy in my arms, and told me I was a grandfather....

I've never felt anything like it in my life. I've never felt more alive, or more content. Never.

I'd actually always kind of made fun of grandparents who got so wrapped up in their grandkids.

Now, I understand the feeling. They were right, and I was wrong.

If there is anything on this planet that feels better than just watching that baby sleep or play, then I'm not sure I'm built to withstand it.

I can't describe my feelings with words, that's why I have feelings. Some things can't be described with words.

Yeah good question. It’s a tough one actually. Just little things like time off work, sitting in the backyard watching the cat weirdly running around.

Filling the fridge with beer when my jam buddies come over. Going for a drive with my wife through the mountains. Just all kinds of little things that make me feel good.

My life goal unrealistic or not is to just drop everything materialistic. Move far away to some tropical place and just sit there. Find a cheap guitar and just be happy.

Weird. I have been discussing this with people lately.....

Going to talk about music since that is what I have been thinking about.

Been more active musically and I noticed is not the "it's fun" thing that I feel but rather I have a feeling that playing is VITALLY IMPORTANT and possibly what I am meant to do.

Feel the same way about things with my kid.

Not quite sure I understand the question. But my mom ended up in long term care after 3 months in the hospital, there are few things as depressing as visiting her.
For one thing I never know which fantasy we are going to share that day, depending on where her mind takes her but it’s all the other people in the same situation as her. So, I do feel alive and glad i am when I leave the place

Not sure I understand the question.

Do you mean feeling alive while doing mundane things? Not taking life for granted?

I feel lucky in general. My wife and boys make me feel that way every day.

I dont feel super alive doing chores or paying bills.

    Maybe I need to clarify. @amstratnut @Boubou

I want to know - when you are doing or experiencing the things in life you're most passionate about - what that feeling is in words to you....

For example, I feel like I'm flying, gliding above the clouds, or dancing on air.....my heart feels no pain, it's free....and I'm in the zone and time flies by without me realizing it......

See, that could be about anything, but I'm describing how my passions make me feel - we could talk forever about "I love playing guitar" or "making music" or "listening to music" - but I'm more interested in the feelings you get, what your soul experiences....

@dante1963 hit the nail on the head - that feeling of unconditional love, caring, and support you get for another human being - kids and grandkids do that....

I get out of the city. While the southwest is vast and awesome, it's also harsh and unforgiving. Middle and east Tennessee...most of Virginia, and similar places from Georgia to Maine, are calming and refreshing. It may sound corny, but just sitting by a river or a creek hearing the water makes me glad to be alive and very grateful.

I struggle a lot with depression, but when I’m listening to, or playing music, I feel as if I actually belong. The feelings of alienation seem to fall away, and I have a general sense of well-being.

I'm honestly not sure I understand the question or how to answer.

The things that make me feel good make me feel alive. Even the smallest of things.

For some reason, I feel like Monty Don should be narrating about the beauty of that picture. :)

Motorcycle trips with my daughter (2 motorcycles) in scenic places like the western NC/Tennessee mountains.

Water skiing in a slalom course.

    Driving a drag boat.

All of these induce some amount of adrenaline, and I guess for me that's a good part feeling happy and excited, and excited about being happy. They all also make me feel young, or at least forget about age.
