My vote is firm. Never heard of her or him.
For how much I idolized Jimmy Page when I was learning to play, I owe almost nothing of my playing style to him.
I'm like 40% J. Mascis, 30% Jerry García, 20% Bob Mould and 10% technical emo stuff.
What is a Lil Wayne?
Some guy named @s5tuart
John Wayne's sperm?
EVH is my hot take.
I can honestly say that I've been more inspired to play by buskers than Van Halen. Which perhaps helps explain my overall arc of progress as a player.
I installed two-way mirrors in his pad in Brentwood, and he come to the door in a dress.
Jessica Simpson; I completely agree.
Ya but he was funny...
Non influential how though? If you think about it, EVH putting a Floyd Rose and a humbucker into that strat body he got from Wayne Charvel nearly put both Fender and Gibson out of business. By the mid 80s when brands like Charvel/Jackson and Ibanez were screaming; Gibson was 3 months from bankrupty in 1986, and CBS put Fender up for sale in 1985. Had Fender
not begrudgingly updated to a 2 point trem for the American Standard in 1987, and Slash hadn't fallen into Gibson's lap as a promoter for Les Pauls; both companies would be long gone. When one guy can swing the entire market to super strats, now that's impressive.
Sorry, how does any of that affect or influence me?
I was in like second grade when those things were happening. My goals at that point was to not get spanked or smacked around and to run really fast.
Although for me I'd say any hair metal guitarist
Well imagine if they had gone out of business. It probably wouldn't have been until the late 2000s that
someone would have been willing to gamble on resurrecting them, and if they weren't? Strats would
all be priced like 71 hemi cudas are today.
You angered him with that one.
Here are my three that are still alive.
Slash.. run's and ducks for cover
I got my first electric guitar in like 2008. I didn't know what a humbucker or single-coil was.
The "affects and influences" you're describing are so miniscule and arcane to somebody like me who literally knew zero guitar players his entire life until adulthood and never held or played a guitar until something like 22 years old. By that time, I would have passively absorbed whatever influences EVH had on the market and proceed to not be influenced by him personally as a player at all.
