I had the opportunity to see Robert Cray at the Hollywood Casino in Charles Town, WV. Other than "Smoking Gun" and his work on Clapton's Journeyman album. I really hadn't heard much of his stuff--I was really impressed with both his guitar work and vocals...this guy can bring it! His playing is tasteful while not overdoing it and his band kicked, too. Blues with a touch of soul/pop/jazz.

If you get a chance to see him, do it!

I saw him and SRV and Bonnie Raitt all in the same show. Started at 11 am and went till 4 the next morning. SRV headlining.

Great sound. I hear them on the blues channel and, no matter what else I'm doing, it just draws me in.

He performed a couple songs at an episode of the Arsenio Hall show, with me being part of the studio audience. Great artist.

The entertainment at Hollywood Casino here generally doesn't have a lot of acts I want to see so when I saw he was booked, I jumped on it. I was just checking to see where he's playing next--this week he'll be in the northeast region.

I saw SRV open for Robert Cray back in college in the early 90's. It was an outdoor venue at George, WA. I went to see Cray (Smoking Gun was very popular)...had never heard of SRV. SRV stole the show! I felt bad for RC because in between every song people were chanting "Stevie, Stevie, Stevie!" I managed to get up to the front row for the whole show...literally 10 ft from SRV! RC was very good, but SRV was great.

I had a similar experience when I saw Robert Plant on his 87-88 tour in Philly. We arrived late, SRV was the opening act and was playing Voodoo Child....I didn't know who he was and of course was blown away by his performance!

I saw Plant on that tour. SRV was supposed to open but it ended up being Cheap Trick. I'm not sure if that's when SRV died or something else happened

Cray’s a great player. Great tone too. Time Makes Two, at Crossroads years ago was an amazing performance.

Yes! His sound was awesome. He was using two Matchless Amp stacks, I'm sure those beauties cost a few bucks!!

I love that concert. Still one of my faves JUST because of the Winwood/Clapton jams.

This is probably my favorite solo by RC. Something about it here is just so... raw. Could be because of the Boogieman, but I dunno.

I saw him 4-5 years ago, lucky enough to be at the very front. I'm a big fan of his soulful playing, great tone too.

Oh yeah. He has a sound of his own. Great feel of the instrument. Definitely a master of the style he plays. Lot of people bash his tone, but I happen to find it unique and soulful.

He’s a great a player. I wish more people knew about him. I like quite a few of his songs. He plays with a lot feeling, in my opinion. Master of quack.

He’s also a great singer! Very soulful. His singing rivals his guitar playing, which says a lot. Great musician.

I’ve always been a huge fan. Jamming along with the album “Strong Persuader” back in the day was when I first felt my playing turn from scale exercises into actual blues licks. Only seen him live once, and he was great.

Agreed. Saw him a couple years ago for the first time. Amazing show. I was very impressed with his unique ability to wring so many different sounds and tones out a strat using just a basic clean sound with minimal effects.
