I would say the Strat is the most versatile guitar. That 5-position selector allows you to really get a lot a different sounds. Add just a small number of pedals, and put it through the right amp, and you can get it to sound like just about anything.

It's all a matter of personal preferences. There's no denying that the Strat is a great design & I'll never be without one, but I gotta respectfully disagree with the "best" statement. It's just another tool in the box. Sure, nothing does Strat like a Strat does, but the same is true of all the other great designs, tele, Les Paul, SG etc. We most all have a favorite guitar, our No.1, mine happens to be my Les Paul Heritage 80 Standard. This doesn't mean I think that my Select Stratocaster is a lesser guitar or that the Les Paul is a better guitar. A good guitar design is a good guitar design, regardless of who manufactured it. I think of them as equal tools for different purposes. Cheers

I’ve got just about every kind of guitar, strats, teles, Les Pauls, SG’s, Jags, a Jazzmaster. But I seem st spend 80% of my time playing a strat.

Right now I’m waiting to take delivery of an ESP Navigator strat, I’m curious to see how well it will fit into the herd.

When I play my Strats I think this is truly my favourite guitar.

And then I pick up a Gibson and after playing it a bit think...this is truly my favourite guitar. ;)

I've been a Strat guy since I started playing, and still think that they're the best guitars, not only for my playing, but also ergonomically.
However, I love my Les Paul for certain things that it does much better than a Strat ever could.
And while a Tele is very similar, its a completely different animal, tonewise.
That's why I embrace the differences and own different ones. Next for me is a hollowbody.

Very nice but it could do with a few more knobs...

This makes a Strat almost as cool as a Tele- ;)

It's nice that you love your guitar, but the key element left out of your statement is "in my opinion".

I like my Strat. I play it the most and it sits in a stand within arms reach when I'm at home.
I actually prefer my Telecaster though.
I can't say why really? Probably because it has a more " rude and in your face" attitude that the Strat lacks.
Oh well to each their own, I think I will play my nylon string classical style guitar today!
    Cheers!

No pedantry here, a P90 is a single coil that you said nobody fitted to Les Paul's but was in actual fact the original Les Paul pickup before Gibson invented Humbuckers.

I think you can buy single coil equipped versions of most of Gibson's range.

    What if
    Just
    What if

    Some of the best players
    Just happen
    To have
    Or
    Just happen
    To play
    Stratocaster
    Just
    What if....

When I won on BSA i could give a dozen reasons they're the best
    Same for Triumph
    Same for Bultaco
    Same for Suzuki

    I'm so fickle and easy

If you really were sincere, you would voice your post differently, the way you voice your post, you are just trying to one-up me.

You are revealed as just a person who wants to argue endlessly to look "cool" to your friends. It's tiring.

I changed mind tbh. I don't think unanimously, Strats are "the Best", but they are undeniably versatile. For instance, the Elite Strat, you can basically have so many sound options on it. Because of the S1 Switch, if you actually look at the different options that each position gives you.....you can all of these. Series Parallel, a Single Coil in Parellel with both other SCs in series with eachother for instance. And this is part of what makes the Strat so powerful and versatile, simply by having three pickups "basins" to choose from.
