Yes, those terrible people who trampled in others rights, humiliated women, patronized two races, drank to excess, operated with hangovers.
Their victimhood is a justification for abusing fellow soldiers, men and women? Really? “I’m mad so I’m going to take my anger out on anyone weaker than me”. My seven years old granddaughter knows better. The film was a primer for bullying.

Was "seven years of granddaughter" written that way on purpose? (I had to think for a minute to realize what you meant.. normally it would be "granddaughter of seven years")

“Of” was supposed to be “old”. It’s corrected.

Ah, I see. Then "years" would be "year" as well...

As a former Medical Student I can unequivocally say “no” but I never came across anyone as malicious as those characters in the film.

    So.

    From now on.

No humor in film allowed unless it matches YOUR sense of humor.

You seem to forget that the movie is FICTION to begin with, all be it based on a real life field hospital. A movie made FIFTY ONE YEARS AGO and a TV show that ended nearly FOURTY YEARS AGO (11 seasons, 256 episodes, so they must have got something right) about a war that happened SEVENTY YEARS AGO.

    Just a coupla things:

Robert Altman made the movie during the Viet Nam war and his intent was to make it an anti war movie. While it was an edgy dark comedy for its time I really doubt anyone who saw the movie said to themselves "that looks like fun wish I could be there".

During your medical career have you ever operated in a tent at the front line of a war with blood up to your elbows?

Not trying to change your opinion, just pointing out it depicts the times it was made and it's not just black or white.

If anything both the movie and the series made clear as a bell how ugly war really is on so many levels.

If any show ever pointed out the folly of racism and sexism, it was MASH.
Many episodes where bigotry and racism were called out, and that was made during a time when racism and bigotry were not addressed in pop culture.

Same thing with "all in the family"
The racism of the archie's character was poked at. He was the butt of the joke.

Oops, I am replying to the wrong post.
    Meant to reply to bcorig.
Anyway, please pass this along to him lol.

"all in the family" was about how ridiculous archie bunker's stupid ideas are.

"mash" is about how you cope with the evil of war.

and if any of you spit on vietnam vets like my father was when he returned from nam - f you.

I strongly suggest you give the British "Carry On" movies a miss, as anything more than a knock-knock joke seems likely to offend.
