here's where I tried to do Chris rea.... I was very sick at the time and was on some poisonous meds that damn near killed me. and once again....I was very weak so each track was done on one take. https://www.reverbnation.com/kellyshelton/song/16403119-road-to-hellchris-rea
Don’t be so humble Helter. That’s a solid cover of NIN. Forgive me for being hypercritical but I think you missed a couple notes, but that’s fixable and it didn’t detract from the song. The sound of your voice isn’t fixable, and you have a truly solid voice. I agree that you should dial back some of the effects on the vocals, but the heavy reverb on the guitar was the only thing that bugged me.
you got it right when you say my voice ain't fixable, lol. when I recorded these, I had just got that br1180 off of Craigslist, and had no idea what I was doing. I was on leave from work cuz I was kinda screwed up at the time, lol. and yeah....I missed a bunch of notes. it happens. I just didn't care.
Now that is quotable. 5 years ago? You worked your voice much since then? You do have something there. I remember you singing grinch. That was fun and I enjoyed that. A totally different sound than Hurt and no effects as I recall. So would the real HS voice please sing out.
I played everything man. that was all me, drunk and alone in me studio room. the drums were programmed.....I didn't actually play those.
The guitar work was kick ass. The voice sux. J/k I'm probably gonna go out Friday night and sing karaoke again. I will see if someone will record and I will show you what a s**tty voice sounds like. You sound better than William Hung though.
Your tone in Hurt comes through even with the effects. Good tone. I love grinch. To me you nailed that. The lower registers in Darker Shade is good but mid tenor or upper you are struggling a bit. That is why I say baritone.
