I always hated the light color of this neck. I did some reading and came across multiple answers. Can you spray nitro over poly? Apparently Fender had done it in this past. What the heck I’ll find out for myself. I lightly sanded the poly with some 400 grit and sprayed 2 coats of nitrocellulose Amber toner. I’m gonna spray 1 or 2 coats of nitrocellulose clear and see it it stays. So for it looks great.

Its totally fine to spray the nitro over the poly, but not the other way around. One caution would be to make sure you layer on some clear over the tinted nitro once you have the color the way you want. That way when you do the final sanding and polishing, you're not taking off color, but just taking off clear. Otherwise you end up with weird color variation that's tough to fix.

    Good luck!

    Very nice looking result!

I have a Tropical Turquoise Squire HT that has a really anemic looking neck, you're inspiring me to give it a try!

Nice job! I've always disliked pale maple necks too.

Just wondering what clear you plan to or have used, and how was the final result?

I just used some minwax clear lacquer. 3 light coats. After about 6 hours of playing it’s fine. No change at all. Cleaning the frets was simple BTW 485AA2B0-085A-49EF-8BA3-6CAA5FDC6B7D.jpeg AC4F9DC0-5747-4F36-9897-A938DF514EAA.jpeg 4C873BA8-1966-4874-994A-EFEC93224D50.jpeg

    That's an improvement.

    Always preferred tinted necks.

lightly sanded 400 grit, not to take poly off. Just to scuff it up.
Mohawk M113-1202 Stardust Amber (2 coats) 20 mins apart
Minwax Clear Gloss Lacquer ( 2 coats fretboard 3 coats + on headstock and back) 20 mins apart. Dry 2 days, wet sand , polished headstock and back. Used a green pad to clean off frets. Done. 928A4FF2-88EA-4D69-BAF2-9EFEB1326C82.jpeg

That came out looking great. Reminded me of my roasted maple neck which I like the look of but it is a bit bright sounding.

Nah, not with the pickups and Floyd, also has the brass big block on the Floyd. It’s more like a Charvel So Cal.
Sorry I misread what you wrote. I had a roasted on another guitar, it looked good but I never liked the neck itself.
