I've got an '02 I bought in great shape from a pawn shop for $50.
My hand aren't huge but they're goo sized.
From e to E strings it's 1/4" narrower than my mim strat.
    It's unplayable.
I guess it would be ok for (way) smaller hands.

I had the same experience, larscaster, I found mine to be unplayable and traded it.

Besides, necks are slimmer but the actual string spacing is the same. I've measured. My Affinity tele has a standard width nut, trimmed down on the ends. My Affinity strat has the stock nut. Both have the same string spacing as a wider neck, it's just that the E strings ride closer to the edges on the Affinities.

But if you don't like that, or slim necks, then Affinities probably aren't your thing.

    I don't have sausage fingers.
I wonder if the '02 has a tiny nut because I played a new bullet at GC and it felt fine.

Squier Affinitys usually have a thinner string spacing at the nut. You can install a nut with a wider string spacing and it will work perfectly, the e strings shouldn't roll off the fretboard.
Every Affinity I've ever owned (I've owned dozens because I practiced repair work on them) had a thinner string spacing at the nut. Every one that got a graph tech nut worked out perfectly.

So you can try a different nut. But the nut width is a little narrow though, and the necks are usually more on the slim side.

Have you actually measured? I'm curious now. I have a 2008 Affinity strat, stock nut, a 2014 Affinity tele with a standard width nut, just had to file the overhang off, and a neck off a standard width strat copy. The actual string spacing at the nut is the same on all three : 7mm. I know another poster or two here have found the same.

Here is a shot of the Affinity tele with the standard width/spaced Tusq nut installed and its old stock Affinity nut above it.

I've never played a squier tele before.
As for squier affinity strats, I have 4 or 5 affinity nuts on my work bench, along with graph tech nuts, the squier nuts Low E string to high e string are closer together. I can post pics if requested.
So I guess the teles are different.

I was just curious, that's all, as our experiences seem to be a little different. My Affinity strat still has its stock nut and the string spacing is the same as the tele with the standard Tusq nut. I just wonder if that can be counted as the inconsistencies in cheaper guitars. Maybe not all Affinity nuts are the same?

I have access to an iphone so I took pics.
I highly recommend changing the nut one affinity strats, it widens the string spacing and makes it way better. The stock nut is way to squished together, maybe the affinity is meant for younger players, yet some of the squier packs have a full sized nut, kinda weird.
Squier teles are very rare where I'm at, but I'b be down to get one someday, they sell quickly so they're hard to get.

Oh, on top is a graph tech nut, two of the slots are messed up. In the middle are affinity strat nuts, bottom is a yjm brass nut.

Come to think of it, my Affinity strat DID come from a pack, so maybe it has standard string spacing despite the narrow neck, as the tele does. And it came with a small headstock rather than the large, and the pack guitars often do differ from the off the wall units. My tele was off the wall and top loading where I have heard the pack teles are often string through.

The Affinity tele is great for its price, although little but the body and neck are stock on mine because I got a vintage vision for it and reworked most of it nocaster style.

As you can see on the tele(and my strat is similar), the E strings do ride close to the fret edges, but not enough to be problematic. At least not for me.

Some Affinity Strats have standard nut width, some are narrow...the ones that are narrow DO have more narrow spacing at the nut - all 6 strings are closer together. I had to get rid of a neck because of it, it was a small headstock 2008 Affinity with a thick almost soft-v neck I loved, except for the strings being so close together at the nut - sold it and got a 2013 VM 70s neck instead....

But do they all? I don't want to argue about it, just trying to understand why I, and a couple other people I've discussed it with on here, seem to have a different experience. If you look at my picture above, the nut that is on there was meant for a 42mm neck. You can see where the ends of the cut-down nut aren't quite flush. The nut above it is the old Affinity nut that was on it. They have the same spacing despite the original nut being narrower. And that spacing is the same as my 42mm strat copy neck, which is the same as my stock Affinity strat. The necks on both my Affinities are around 40mm

I just measured my 2002 Affinity strat from e to e in the nut is 1 1/4".
My 2006 mim strat e to e in the nut is 1 1/2 inches.
    Big difference.
