I have mine set up for full float..and...
...NEVER use the bar.
Full floater! Hmmm...that sounds a wee nasty!
Decked. 3 springs. Never cared for the tremolo bar.
Been playing my Strat for a few years now.. never wanted to try it. Bends and vibratos are enough for me.
the day I decked my trem is the day I fell in love with my strat
Floating is my preference. If I want a hard tail I’ve got a Telecaster for that. One of the compelling features on a Strat for me is the floating bridge. All 3 of mine are set to float and all 3 stay in tune perfectly.
Ah the timeless Simultaneous Wangerator® question.
Sometimes I will and then again I think I won't...
Y’all wiggle as you wish, personally I lost the stick.
I float mine generally just a touch off the deck, like so you can just slide a business card in there. And I only use 3 springs so it's all very squishy. This is so if I am using the bar and I let go of it then the bridge doesn't go BANG against the deck but will be cushioned in it's landing. But I don't really ever go crazy with dive bombs or anything, I mostly use it for the shimmery/vibrato effect (think SRV's Lenny). In fact I don't even really need the bar to do this and I can remove it, I can just rock my picking hand on the bridge and I get the same effect. The higher your float the more depth the hand rock move has. Sometimes the bar is just too far away.
I've basically always decked or blocked the strats I've had that had whammies. The reason being any time I"ve tried to actually USE a whammy bar, I could't get any sort of even remotely useable musical sounds out of it. I've been reminded of this with a few strats and then finally got a hardtail, which didn't require the process of feeling like an idiot. If I could find a musically useful way to use a whammy, I probably would. But I've never been able to pull it off, so I've always ended up quickly disabling them. I don't have any problem getting a very stratty sound out of my Cray hardtail...
I don't whammy.
trem.....yes. it can be a big part of the style on a Strat
