I'm looking to buy a (new) Tokai LP (LS128, 136 or 142) right now, but man it's hard to get detailed specs.

I have no idea if they have long tenon or not. The laquer seems to be poly but can't really tell...

Is there any web site to get precise specs ? Can't find it if there's any... @felis ?

    TOKAI

AFAICT most Tokai Love Rocks have 'Medium' (compared with certain LesPauls (?), but I know next to nothing about Gibsons) tenon. I have 'heard' talk about 'longer' tenons on some specific 'highest end' models, but I cannot confirm that?

Guideline; when 'lacquer finish' (Tokai phrasing for 'nitro' ;)) was not mentioned in an official Tokai catalogue, it usually was some kind of 'poly'!

And the sellers copy paste a lot without really knowing...sometimes it's iberic blue, sometimes indigo blue, sometimes premium pops out for no reason...Sigh !

A seller just answered me : only ULS150 and above have long tenon and nitro.

LS150 was some kind of special in between series from some years ago, with some very specific specs.

You have to be careful with those 'special' 150s, typically Tokai! :D
They were higher specced than other comparable model numbers, those models could have had the 'longer tenons'?

I'm not even sure all 'premium' (above 150) models have 'long tenon'?

You are aware of the; modelnumber ↔ price in Yen ↔ year of production (value) connection?

e.g. (fictional!); LS136 from 2017 can be exactly the same guitar as LS142 from 219.

I was kept on hold by a finance company for so long, I used the time to research your question. A good place to start is the images you can find using Google and "Tokai long tenon". Quite a few of these pictures tell a story: https://www.google.com/search?q=tok...BAgFEAE&biw=1824&bih=881#imgrc=9nXP943CRfPwsM:

Better still if you follow the more interesting pictures to the sites they come from, you'll learn a lot along the way. Most Tokais seem to use a medium/short tenon, with very few getting to the halfway mark or beyond on the neck pickup cavity. But there are exceptions, which is where it gets interesting!

FWIW, I've owned quite a few Tokai LP-type guitars, and they all had rock solid neck joints. I had a Love Rock II for a while, but there was something a bit 'dead' about it. o_O I don't know why.

From what I've just read handmade in Japan using the finest materials. I get the distinct idea they're aiming for the way these guitars were made in 1958. Certainly not a 'cheap copy'!

    Congratulations. :)
