Has anyone deleted the wire from the middle pickup to the bottom tone control and replaced it with the wire from the bridge pickup?, ie, so that the bottom tone control works only on the bridge pickup.

And how does it affect the tone in the 2 and 4 selector switch positions?

Yes, that's commonly known as the Jimmie Vaughan mod & it's standard on the JLV signature Strat. Personally I don't like it, I prefer one master tone control.

    Me too, by far.
In fact, that was what I was planning on recommending when I read the thread title.

But now, I'm kinda pressured to up the ante, so let me answer your question.
Position umm... 2? 4? Bridge and Middle will stay exactly the same sound-wise.
Neck and Middle will become a tad brighter since only one tone pot will be active, not two.
This, in my opinion, is a good thing.

If you don't use the Middle on its own much, this might even be exactly what you're looking for.

But personally, I like the simplicity of having only two knobs, and I'd urge you to try that for yourself, too.

Yes that is the way the Eric Johnson Strat comes wired. I love it. I used to wire the middle to the middle and bridge PU but then it seemed too muddy. Once I got my EJ I realized I liked the tone on the bridge only. Something about no tone pot loading down the middle PU make sit more enjoyable to me as well.

Aaw... and here's me, clicking on the alert thinking there's a fruitful discussion about to start :(

Still, glad what I said had turned out to be ok as is in the end.

I'll try to find a sound sample.
