After using a log tone pot for some months, I decided to try a linear one - with the log, it felt like nothing was happening from 10 to 3 and everything from 3 to 2.
Now with the linear pot, it feels like nothing is happening from 10 to 3 and everything from 3 to 2.

    Am I doing something wrong?

FWIW, this is a (modified) Duncan wiring diagram that shows how I've wired it up.

I just did a build with a linear taper tone pot and it just feels wrong. Audio taper just feels right even though on paper it appears to be "wrong".

It would be like choosing a fuzz pedal based on an oscilloscope display and not hearing/playing it.

Ps: also be sure you have good continuity. I thought I had wired wrong and the 3rd lug on the volume pot (bent to back of pot) was not making solid contact.

But there seems to be no difference between the pots at all :(
Also, would they even work at 2 if there was bad continuity?

Are you sure you had linear before and audio now??

    Are they labelled A250K?

    B250k would be linear......A for audio/logarithmic......

Just an idea - wire the black cable coming from the tone pot at the left lug to the middle lug on the volume pot, try if you like it that way.

    All the best,

They‘re labelled differently, but the first one was definitely audio and the new one is definitely linear (I checked the codes on the CTS page).

The pots you have are most likely 90/10 (ie at 10% of their total possible resistance at 5). Try to find some with a less extreme taper like CTS TVTs - they might work without being as extreme as linear ones.
Also I second @Robins advice, try 50s wiring, I know I love it on my Tele.
