I got up at 1:20am to watch the launch - it’s the best thing humanity is doing at the moment, and I didn’t want to miss it.

Space flight is so cool. I know this sounds unbelievable, but my uncle was one of the astronauts on Apollo 15. I was like 1/2 mile away (VIP section) in 1971 to see liftoff. It was the louder than sh*t. It sounded like a million firecrackers going off. I had crawled on top of a media van for some dumbass reason and I remember it was shaking like a paint shaker. I could barely hold on! It was just mind blowing. The normal crowd was like 3 miles away. Got to ride in a VIP limo to the site. I’ve got a briefcase (uh different one) filled full of articles and pictures. I got to go up in the building where they build the rocket. It’s freaking HUGE! I also remember standing next to the gargantuan vehicle that moves the rocket to the launch position. Enormous. As far as I recall, they had to bring special volcanic rock from Oregon to line the track where the vehicle moves to support the weight. I don’t understand why but I just remember our guide saying something like that. I had a most excellent picture of me at 12 yrs old sitting on top of the lunar rover mock-up they used for training. But when we moved it got misplaced and I can’t find it . Got to see the astronauts before they went up, although through some thick glass as they were quarantined.

But anyway, here’s a shot of my badge I had and pin they gave me.

So, the question is, did my goofy young ass ask my uncle about UFO’s the next time I saw him when he came to Oregon for a speech? OF COURSE I DID! And he wouldn’t say nuthin....o_O

    We’re back in the game.
    It’s about time.
Since we did the Moon in 1969, I thought man would have set foot on Mars 20 years ago.

Those telescopes you’ve had, were they as long as 21 fret guitars or 22 fret guitars?

If launching men into orbit is the best thing humanity is doing at the moment it’s little wonder the world is in the state it is.

Understood, in many ways we are back to where we were 50 years ago.

But there is definitely merit in renewing the effort, got to start somewhere.

Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and we will get wherever there is.
