    hello all,

    in this order imho

    jimi
    clapton
    stevie ray
    rory
    george harrison

there are so many fantastic strat players that this list could go on for days and days,

i feel it's more a matter of the player than the instrument, but knowing that so many great choose the strat pays homage to exactly how great the strat really is.

    peace,
    geof

Heck I get a long with anyone who digs Gilmore and Yngwie ;-)

Both those guys need to be on my list, but that'd make 6...there's just too many good strat players...

You know, when ya' mention a Strat there are a definite few guys that show up on the list. I think all of the guys metioned so far probably desrve to be on the list, except one.

I wouldn't consider George Harrison on the list of the top five, or top one hundred, Strat players. Don't get me wrong, I think what George did was pretty awesome, but he was a player of many guitars and, with the exceptions of a couple of guitars, I don't associate him with the Strat as much as I would with all the other guys mentioned so far. I guess what I am trying to say is that George was an excellent guitarist, but not a true 'Strat-Man.'

Before putting George on the list I would include the other players already mentioned and at least mention the following players.

    1. Frank Marino
    2. Jeff Beck
    3. Jimmie Vaughn
    4. Robert Cray
    5. Dick Dale
    6. Dave Murray
    7. Adrian Smith
    8. Bonnie Raitt
    9. Hank Marvin
10... and then finally, maybe, just maybe, George Harrison.

If this thread was about top musicians that play guitar, or just guitarists, I would have a different list. I think the defining difference for me is what each player did with and for the Strat. If the Strat didn't in some way define their sound or if the player could have done what they did with a different instrument, then I don't add them to the Strat list.

Anyhow, these are my thoughts, incomplete as they are.

    Cheers mates!

    Bob

You know, regardless of what the actual top five is, or would be, this is quite an impressive list of players.
