A friend of mine who has a small house got a quote to do his roof and it was $14,000 a few months ago. He called the roofing company last month to okay the job and it went up to $16,000 due to the soaring price of sheathing. Ouch. Luckily the roof I just did required no wood just shingles and vents. Luckily if you know where to look you can still buy roofing seconds for about half the price .
It's been done. Any type of lumber you can imagine has been used for a guitar body.
Quite often, alcohol is involved.
Well... decades ago when I was designing CNC machine tools, I snagged a pallet that was mostly some variety of mahogany. It came in from a Taiwanese machinery supplier. I gave it to an accquaintence who did wood turning. She turned the 4" x 4" stock and laminated the rest into layered pieces.
Trading that should get me a house with a family, now.

Yeah and for a few years now, tweakers (meth heads not sound guys) will go into houses under construction and pull ALL the wiring out to get the copper to sell . Can you imagine some scrap dealer place where a bunch of wide eyed toothless skinny guys walk in with a clusterbang of coiled up copper and the place goes “looks legit” what do you want for it? It’s insane. I can’t imagine being the homeowner and contractor having to rewire a place, the materials and labor AND now having to have security until the freakin doors and locks are on . Ugh
What’s even more unbelievable is that tweakers will spend the time to actually pull off the wire jacket to get to the wire, yet they’re too lazy and drawn to crime than get a much easier job that’s legit and would pay higher money for time spent working... yeah, America’s finest at work.
Im in commercial construction. Somebody stole our bobcat and trailer from our shop. I can understand hooking up to the wrong trailer. Sometimes they kinda look alike. But you know that ain't your bobcat. That and cat converters. Some clown goes to the scrap yard with a truckful of converters you know he wasn't just cleaning out the shed
It's getting to that point..jajajajaja
It's an ad from the 50s, but still. Talk about inflation!
