    On.

I'm at that age where I have a dad bod that pushes belts down, shirts up, and body hair that is not compatible with exposed springs.

On, but I wouldn't mind it off either. Not that it makes a difference

Off. I don't want to disappoint Eric Johnson if he shows up to try out my Strats.

Off otherwise all the tone is trapped in there

Off. Either way, playing with distortion at stage volumes, the springs need to be packed with foam or cloth if you want to do palm mutey stuff especially. The guard on its own does absolutely nothing against that ringing.

I always thought it was off so you could set up the tension on the trem so it worked properly, I noticed after some time the springs must stretch out and I need to tighten the screws a little so the guitar came back in tune when using the tremelo. After a couple times of taking it off and putting it back on I just left it off. Also I noticed that my wide neck Mas Hino and the PRS Santana Signature does not even have holes for one !!

Off until someone starts a thread about it. Then on...until someone starts a thread about it.

On, but I cut the string hole end off. Best of both worlds but as it was on an original 1962 back plate maybe not so much of a great an idea, lol.

I have a 1988 Strat Plus with the swimming pool route. When I play acoustically without an amp I can hear a difference with the backplate off. Almost as it has a bit of reverb coming out of the backside. Especially when sitting down. Anyone else notice that on that particular vintage?

    WTAF,... !!

If we accept our Strat with NO COVER PLATE, they won't have to produce them... and given each plate is cut from a larger sheet, with the off-cut material being scrapped and burnt, we're reducing the number of sheets of plastic needed.
The production of that plastic has created, and is still creating a multitude of toxic and ozone depleting chemicals.
Depleting the ozone layer increases global warming,.. and the UV radiation which isn't kept out is destroying our childrens vision...

SO if you don't want your children to be blind fish, leave it off.
