I know, right? Just think of all those Strat backplates and Les Paul pickguards clogging up our oceans!
    Oh, the horror!

Can't believe I just read 8 pages of this. Time to play my Strat!

Always off, playing open D for bottleneck sliding, turning back to normal tuning my Strat may need some quick adjustment.

Your intuition... trust it and feel secure that your decisions and preferences are correct... or second guess it.

First thing I do is take them off and throw in a drawer.

    "maybe they misplaced it?
maybe they wanna show off how many springs they have"

Maybe they want hustle-free string changing.

My last 4 Strats, 3 EJ’s and my current Silver Sky, have no back plate or even holes drilled for one.

Has to be on for my ocd to be content and I don't want the springs to pinch my beer belly.

    Really?
This is the umpteend stupid "this or that" question that I see coming by here in the last few weeks. Who the F#@% cares. Go play your god damn guitar if you don't have anything better to do.

That’s fine, but how often do you, or anyone, see the back of your guitar?

Not true, I get sweaty b******s on stage whether I leave it on or take it off. I suppose there could be a little more air circulation with it off though. A scientific study is needed.

On, never had a problem with stringing with it on, use a flashlight in low light situations.

On. It allows me to stuff toilet paper/cottom wool under and ontop of the springs to keep them quiet. Anyone else tried this?

I cringe at the thought of my thing being anywhere near those springs.
