I have never any reliability problems with the Mesa-branded EL34 tubes in my Mark III Boogie.
As was stated earlier, the brand of output tubes has little effect on tone.
The pre-amp tubes are far more important as as as tone is concerned.
Plus, you can buy matched Mesa EL34 tubes at your local GC.

FWIW that may be very difficult to achieve. While there will always be some differences in the voice of an EL84 vs a 6L6 amp the biggest difference is gonna be in the amp design and even the cab and speakers.

But having an understanding of your objective I wish you success at least getting it close enough to please you.

Yeah I actually like the tone of it now or I wouldn’t even bother. It’s easier to say the amp that I want it to sound a little more like, than to describe something so subjective. My old Fender tube amp couldn’t even sound a Yamaha G. That amp was a wheelbarrow full of clear, fat, sterile guitar tone.

I find JJ's to be fizzy in just about everything I put them in. I don't know maybe it's just me but I hear so many people claim modern Marshalls are fizzy and to the best of my knowledge Marshall's own tubes are rebranded JJ's. I just dont like them in the preamp. Tungsol or Sovtek just seem to work for me.

Yeah I hear that! They all come with little labels on them but I've often wondered if they have a load of labels written up and pair them together at random lol. They are cheap as you say though so its worth the risk!
